Voodoo are on a mission to raise £2,000 to buy an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) by April 2018.
Originally intended for use within the gym for our members and staff; we thought how our local community could benefit from this piece of life saving equipment. We will mount it directly outside the gym for public access in an emergency.
So what exactly is an AED?
What does it do?
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses a life-threatening irregular heart beat (cardiac arrhythmia), a heart attack (cardiac arrest) or if there is no heart beat present in a patient. It is able to treat them through the application of an electrical charge allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.
It saves lives.
With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use. We can teach you how to use an AED, its use is covered within several of our first aid courses.
Why do we need an AED?
Did you know…
I am sure it needs no further explanation.
So what exactly is the money for?
To make this available to the public we need to purchase a secure external cabinet, the defibrillator itself and a host of peripheral equipment as well as having it installed. Any money raised over and above our target we will put towards subsidising first aid training for local businesses (if they wish to take part) so they are trained to use this vital equipment.
Any ongoing maintenance and future costs going forward will be covered by us.
